Tales from the Cook are tall tales; a twist on the foodways sub-genera of folklore. Foodways are stories of the cultural, and social practices relating to the consumption of food. The Peas-porridge story was interesting, thank you! My mother used to eat a similar bean dish. It was navy beans cooked with onions, salt and pepper until tender. Was there carrots added? I really don’t know, but she ate the pasty stuff cold slathered on bread as a sandwich. It was NOT soup!
