You are about to participate in a great adventure of story and recipe. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which comes from the fiery hearth of old to the dinner table of today.

Tales from the Cook are tall tales; a twist on the foodways sub-genera of folklore. Foodways are stories of the cultural, and social practices relating to the consumption of food. Tales from the Cook are fantastical tales of how people are transformed by food and how food is in turn transformed by people.

  1. The Peas-porridge story was interesting, thank you! My mother used to eat a similar bean dish. It was navy beans cooked with onions, salt and pepper until tender. Was there carrots added? I really don’t know, but she ate the pasty stuff cold slathered on bread as a sandwich. It was NOT soup!
